Risk Manger /Staff Educator / Employee Health Nurse

Job Description:
- Assist DON & ADON to develop, maintain and periodically update written policies and procedures that govern the day¬ to-day functions of the nursing service department.
- Assist the Quality Management Committee in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies.
- Utilize computer data base for referencing current guidelines, clinical practice, etc. that will assist the nursing service department in meeting the day-to-day needs and in preparing for State/ Federal Surveys.
- Assist DON & ADON to develop, implement and maintain ongoing quality assurance program for the nursing department.
- Serve on, participate in and attend various committees of the facility as required, and as appointed by the DON and ADON.
- Evaluate and implement recommendations from established committees as they may pertain to nursing services.
- Review nurses notes and other documentation to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided, that they reflect the residents response to the care and they meet regulatory requirements for M.D.S. completion, insurance reports, etc.
- Make rounds with the Medical Director and/or physicians as necessary.
- Review CNA care guides and accountability records for accuracy.
- Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to assure that medications are being administered per standards and as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled.
- Provide direct nursing care as necessary.
- Develop, plan and conduct timely in-service training classes that provides instructions on ""how to do the job"", and ensures a well-educated facility.
- Conduct an effective orientation program that orients the new employees to the facility, its policies and procedures and to his/her job position and duties.
- Conduct formal reeducation for any incident violating staff job position and duty expectations
- Organize educational opportunities on and off site for staff to expand knowledge and practice
- Provide leadership training that includes the administrative and supervisory principles
- Provide hands on clinical support for the nursing staff to ensure specialized treatments are provided appropriately.
- Utilize a computer based training program to assign learning modules to staff.
- Monitor for mandatory annual compliance training completion for the facility through the computerized training program.
- Assist support services in developing, implementing and conducting in-service training programs.
- Attend and participate in continuing educational programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession, as well as to maintain your license on a current status.
- Assist the DON in developing safety standards for the Nursing Services Department.
- Monitor nursing service personnel to assure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
- Develop plans that ensure that all personnel performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood/body fluids participate in an in-service training program prior to performing such tasks.
- Monitor that any exposure to blood/body fluids is reported promptly and followed up according to policy/regulations.
- Ensure thatnursing service personnel follow established infection control procedures when isolation precautions become necessary.
- Recommend to the DON & ADON the equipment and supply needs of the department.
- Ensure that only trained and authorized nursing personnel operate the resident equipment.
- Assist in ensuring that all personnel operate nursing service equipment in a safe manner.
- Develop and implement procedures that ensure nursing service supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste.
- Monitor nursing care to assure that all residents are treated fairly, with kindness, dignity and respect, and that a homelike environment with residents choices are a primary focus.
- Oversee and manage the administrative and operational activities of employee health services.
- Provide and manage the required physical evaluation programs and services to meet regulatory requirements for all staff.
- All other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities Include:
- Must possess, as a minimum, a nursing Degree from an accredited college or university. FL RN License required.
- Must have, as a minimum, three (3) years’ experience as a licensed nurse in a hospital, long-term care facility or other related health care facility.
- Must have, as a minimum, six (6) months training experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
- Experience in staff education preferable.
