Recreation Program Specialist- Full Time

The Paramount at Somers is looking for an accomplished professional Recreation/Activities Specialist to join our Recreation Team. The candidate will provide therapeutic and social programming to meet the emotional, physical, and cognitive needs of our residents.
The Recreation/Activities Program Specialist will be responsible and oversee our therapeutic day program, working in conjunction with our interdisciplinary team. They will create, implement and manage the program. The caseload responsibility as assigned to the Recreation/Activities Specialist will perform functions within the department as outlined below.
Essential Functions:
- Develops, leads, and implements daily programs for individual and group activities as scheduled.
- Promotes a physically and sensory stimulating environment to increase the functioning levels of residents.
- Ensure all activities are safe and suitable for Residents with varying levels of physical and cognitive abilities.
- Evaluates the resident’s recreational needs and develops activity programs upon resident initial admission relating to past and current interests.
- Maintains records of activities and attendance, including timely completion of resident’s daily participation in programs, MDS’s, Care Plans & Progress Notes.
- Participates in interdisciplinary Care Plan meetings.
- Assists in creating monthly calendars.
- Identifies materials and equipment needed for program and submits requests. Maintains material supply and ensures equipment and materials are clean and in working order.
- May escort residents to and from activities, using proper walker/wheelchair mechanics and safety precautions.
- Perform other functions as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the Recreation Director.
- In an emergency, performs other duties necessary for the welfare of patients or the efficient operations of the facility.
- Participates in Facility Survey (inspections) made by authorized government agencies, as necessary or directed.
- Follows established safety policy and procedures, infection prevention and control practice and reports all incidents/accidents to Recreation Director or Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Degree in therapeutic recreation, gerontology, or related field is desirable.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with geriatric long-term population or therapeutic recreation environment required.
- Creative and enthusiastic with a genuine interest in working with seniors.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, and Excel) and EMR (Point, Click, Care)
- Ability to read and understand task assignments; must have excellent communication skills
- Must be able to complete routine physical tasks associated with the job duties, above.
Salary: Up to $25/hour plus benefits
