We are actively looking to hire a Director of Recreation for our Skilled Nursing Facility located in Bronx, NY.
Responsibilities
• Develop a diverse range of engaging activity programs throughout the week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Design activities tailored to meet the needs of residents, including small and large group activities, individual projects, sensory experiences, clubs, special interests, spiritual and religious activities, one-on-one interactions, and community outings.
• Create and distribute a monthly activities calendar, ensuring it's displayed prominently and accessible to every resident.
• Prepare a monthly staffing schedule that includes coverage for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ensure all required documentation is completed, including MDS forms, assessments, and care plans.
• Implement a system to track resident participation and attendance.
• Attend morning meetings, department head meetings, care plan discussions, and other meetings as directed by the facility administrator.
• Order necessary supplies and equipment for department activities.
• Organize monthly resident council meetings, as well as any other resident committees (e.g., food committee), acting as the staff liaison for the council president and other committee members. Take notes and ensure resident concerns are addressed.
• Coordinate and plan special community outings that align with resident interests.
• Arrange regular entertainment, seasonal parties, and special events.
• Assist with planning and coordinating staff events upon the administrator's request.
• Decorate the facility according to seasonal and holiday themes.
• Manage and oversee the volunteer program.
• Coordinate community outreach programs and serve as the facility's representative at local events.
• Responsible for maintaining a bi-monthly newsletter and overseeing the facility's social media presence.
• Comply with all facility and corporate policies.
Qualifications
• Experience in activities or recreation in a skilled nursing facility is required.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience working with age-appropriate activities and 5 years in a full-time activity program.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills.
• Must have a genuine enjoyment of working with the senior population.
